In early 2025, the Directorate General of Taxes officially launched Coretax as a long-planned replacement tax administration system. For corporate taxpayers, this change is not just a new look; there is a fundamental shift in how the Annual Tax Return (SPT) is reported, from the format of filling out to the data validation mechanism.
Unfortunately, this transition has not gone smoothly for everyone. Many corporate tax staff who were accustomed to DJP Online find themselves having to relearn workflows that have been automated for years. On the other hand, reporting deadlines remain tight, and small mistakes can lead to costly administrative sanctions.
Changes in Coretax for Corporate SPT
Coretax integrates several previously separate functions. Prepopulated data from third-party withholding evidence is now directly available in the system, allowing corporate taxpayers to perform cross-checks without having to manually re-enter data. Additionally, stricter automatic validation makes inconsistencies between commercial and fiscal financial reports detected more quickly, something that used to be discovered only during audits.
Another significant change is the fiscal reconciliation mechanism. Positive and negative correction formats must now be mapped in more detail, including references to the articles underlying each correction. This means tax staff need to understand not just the numbers but also the legal basis behind each adjustment.
Common Challenges in the Field
From various discussions with practitioners, several common obstacles repeatedly arise. First, the difference in format between internal accounting software and the Coretax template forces manual adjustments. Second, there is uneven understanding of how the income tax (PPh) owed is calculated within the new framework, especially for companies with affiliate transactions or income from abroad.
The third challenge, and perhaps the most crucial, is the issue of equalization. The figures in the Annual Corporate Income Tax SPT must be consistent with the VAT Period SPT and the withholding evidence for PPh Articles 21/23/26 that have been reported throughout the year. Inconsistencies here often trigger questions from tax authorities, leading to lengthy clarification processes.
Preparing the Team for Better Reporting
The key lies in understanding the entire workflow, not just knowing how to fill out forms. Staff who understand the logic behind fiscal reconciliation and income tax calculations will be better prepared to face any system changes, including ongoing updates to Coretax. Structured training, with real case studies and live simulations in Coretax, is a worthwhile investment compared to the risks of sanctions due to incorrect entries.
Summary
- Coretax fundamentally changes the reporting workflow for Corporate SPT, including tighter validation and reconciliation
- Main challenges include format adjustments, understanding the income tax owed, and cross-type SPT equalization
- Structured training with live simulations helps tax teams reduce the risk of corrections and sanctions
