For many teachers in Indonesia, work does not stop when the bell rings. After teaching, there is still a pile of answer sheets to be graded, student development records to be filled out, and lesson plans for the following week. Through Permendikdasmen Number 11 of 2025, the teacher's workload is set at 37 hours and 30 minutes per week with a minimum of 24 hours of face-to-face teaching. This figure does not account for the unseen time spent on administrative tasks at home.
The administrative burden on teachers is not just a personal complaint, but a significant issue that requires policy response. The government simplified the performance management system at the beginning of 2025 so that teachers are not burdened by administrative tasks. At the same time, the adjustment towards a deep learning curriculum for the 2025/2026 academic year demands more varied assessment designs and learning strategies, including the introduction of elective subjects in Coding and Artificial Intelligence.

Three work areas that AI can assist with
Feedback. Providing personal comments for thirty students is nearly impossible to do with consistent quality. Teachers can establish assessment criteria once, then ask AI to prepare draft feedback for each student based on those criteria. The teacher still reads, corrects, and approves. What changes is not who assesses, but how long it takes to reach the editing stage.
Differentiation. A single class contains students with different learning speeds. From one core worksheet, AI can help produce a simpler version and an enrichment version, so teachers have materials for different groups without having to rewrite from scratch.
Consistency. Uniform rubrics, grids, and task instructions make it easier for students to understand expectations. AI helps maintain a consistent format across topics and weeks, something that is exhausting if done manually.
Keeping teachers in the driver's seat
This benefit only lasts if teachers maintain control. AI can be mistaken, too general, and does not understand the class context as well as the teacher does.
